Manchester United's Marcus Rashford has been given the number nine shirt in what could be the biggest indication yet that the forward will play a big part in the season and lead the attack.

He may make his return for United at Hull this lunchtime in the team's Premier League opener. Though he's starting on the bench.

Rashford is back from a period out on loan, having not played for his boyhood club since December 2024.

The Reds kick off the new campaign at Hull City on Saturday afternoon, when several players could be wearing their shirts for the first time in a competitive fixture.

The numbers of new signings Andrey Santos (17), Karl Darlow (12), Youri Tielemans (18) and Tynan Thompson (27) had previously been confirmed, while Senne Lammens swapped from no.31 to number one over the summer.

Shea Lacey has taken that vacant number, moving from no.46, while Marcus Rashford will wear the number nine.
