Two more arrests over man stabbed in Bury car park

Police investigating the fatal stabbing of a 19-year-old man have made two more arrests.

Mohammed Afzal, 19, was found with multiple stab wounds near to Bury College on Friday night.

Three men – all aged 19 – were arrested on suspicion of murder over the following two days.

One has since been released on bail.

On Monday (04 August), police made a further two arrests of men aged 19, bringing the total arrest count to five.

Enquiries are ongoing in relation to the investigation, and Mohammed’s family continue to be supported by specialist officers.

Detective Chief Inspector John Charlton, from GMP’s Major Incident Team, said: “Officers have worked non-stop for the past few days, resulting the arrest of five people on suspicion of murder.

“While our investigation is still in its very early days, we are making good progress with our various lines of enquiry, and I want thank those who have come forward with information to assist us.

“As this work continues, we would still ask anyone with information to get in touch with us – either by calling us directly or getting in touch with Crimestoppers anonymously.”
