Two men arrested after lorry protest in Wythenshawe
Police closed Greeba Road after demonstrators climbed onto vehicle
Two men have been arrested after a protest saw a lorry blocked on an industrial estate in Wythenshawe this morning (3rd March).
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said officers were called to Greeba Road on the Roundthorn Industrial Estate at around 7.05am following reports of an assault. The road was closed while emergency services responded and a cordon was put in place.
Images from the scene showed two protesters sitting on top of a lorry which had red paint splashed across the front. Police officers and fire crews attended the incident, which took place near the Wythenshawe bus depot.
In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said: “We have arrested two men after being called to a protest in Wythenshawe this morning.
“We were called to Greeba Road at around 7.05am today after reports of an assault.
“The two men, were arrested at 9.40am on suspicion of criminal damage, suspicion of assault and on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon. The pair remain in custody for questioning.
“We deployed neighbourhood and specialist resources to the area within minutes of the call.”
Road closed on Roundthorn Industrial Estate
Greeba Road was shut for several hours as officers dealt with the incident. The Bee Network said services were disrupted due to an “ongoing non-transport related incident”.
Photographs from the industrial estate showed the police cordon extending along the road as emergency services remained at the scene.
Protest understood to target logistics firm
The protest is understood to have involved a lorry linked to DSV, a transport and logistics company which has a unit on the Wythenshawe industrial estate.
A group calling itself People Against Genocide has publicly alleged that DSV transports arms for Israeli-based company Elbit Systems. These claims have not been independently verified. DSV has been approached for comment.
Police have confirmed the two arrested men remain in custody for questioning.
