Two men have been arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply drugs after a gun and a substantial quantity of ammunition were found at a business in Irlam.

Greater Manchester Police said the weapon and ammunition were recovered from a business address on Liverpool Road.

Officers from GMP's Serious Organised Crime Group, supported by the Tactical Aid Unit, executed a warrant at the address at around 8.30pm on Wednesday.

Police said they acted on information.

A search took place after officers gained entry, and a firearm and a substantial quantity of ammunition were recovered.

On Thursday, officers arrested two men with support from the Tactical Vehicle Intercept Unit.

One is in his 50s and the other is in his 30s.

They were arrested on suspicion of conspiracy to supply Class A and Class B drugs, namely cocaine and cannabis.

Both remain in police custody for questioning.

A scene remains in place as officers continue their enquiries.

Police said the business has been closed since last week, for reasons they described as entirely unrelated.

Detective Inspector Rich McCorry, from the Serious Organised Crime Group, said: "This operation demonstrates our continued commitment to disrupting serious organised crime and removing dangerous weapons from our streets."

He also said: "We will continue to target those involved in organised criminality and pursue anyone seeking to profit from the supply of illegal drugs or the possession of firearms."
