Emergency services are at the scene of an incident in Leominster after reports a train hit a tractor and trailer at a level crossing.

The train was travelling from Manchester to Cardiff, the Transport for Wales (TfW) train was not derailed but some people have been injured. At this time it's not believed their injuries are serious.

One man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said one man was airlifted to Hereford County Hospital and a woman was taken to the hospital by road ambulance.

"15 further patients who were passengers on the train were assessed, and all were discharged at the scene," a West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said.

"Nobody from the tractor required assessment."

It means no trains are running between Hereford and Shrewsbury - with disruption expected until the end of the day.

British Transport Police said:

"British Transport Police were called to a level crossing north of Leominster, Herefordshire, at 10.40am today (22 May) following reports that a train had struck a tractor and trailer.

"Officers attended alongside officers from West Mercia Police, paramedics and fire service.

"Following medical assessments two people were treated for injuries that are not considered to be serious.

"A 32-year-old man from Bromyard has been arrested on suspicion of endangering safety on the railway.

"Enquiries remain ongoing into the full circumstances leading up to the incident."

A Transport for Wales spokesman said: "The 0830 Manchester Piccadilly-Cardiff Central service has hit an obstruction at a crossing between Ludlow and Leominster so all services on the Marches line are on stop.

"Ticket acceptance is in place with Northern, Avanti, GWR and CrossCountry. Replacement road transport is being put in place."

A spokesperson for the Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) said:

"The RAIB has sent a team of inspectors to Leominster in Herefordshire who are at the site of a collision between a passenger train and an agricultural trailer at a user worked level crossing.

"Our inspectors will gather evidence as part of the process of conducting a preliminary examination and a decision on whether an investigation will be launched will be taken in the coming days."
