Thousands of runners are taking on the Manchester Half Marathon today, with roads closed along a route from Trafford to Chorlton-cum-Hardy.

Organisers say 30,000 people are taking part, and that the full 13.1 miles is on closed roads.

The race starts in Trafford, close to Manchester United's ground.

It then heads through Stretford, Sale and Chorlton-cum-Hardy before finishing on Talbot Road.

Elite races

The wheelchair race started at 8.55am, with the men's and women's elite races following at 9am.

The event is also doubling up as the England Athletics Half Marathon Championships.

Organisers say three elite course records fell at last year's race.

The men's wheelchair field includes defending champion Sean Frame and Paralympic silver medallist Nathan Maguire.

Irish Olympian Stephen Scullion and Finland's Tuomas Heikkilä are among those in the men's elite race.

Heather Townsend, who finished second in the 2025 race, is returning for the women's elite race.

Watching and getting around

The elite races are being shown on a live stream, with athletics commentator Geoff Wightman providing commentary.

Results are due to be published on the event website shortly after the finish.

Organisers have warned the start and finish areas are busy, with limited space.

They are advising supporters not to wait at the start line, and to pick a meeting point to find loved ones after the race instead.

Organisers have also shared the earliest tram times on their social media pages.

Next year

Organisers have confirmed the next Manchester Half Marathon will take place on Sunday 3rd October 2027.

Entries for 2027 open at 2pm on Monday.
