Teenager seriously injured in suspected machete attack in Wigan
A 17-year-old boy has suffered a "potentially life-changing injury"
Police have confirmed a teenage boy has been seriously injured in an suspected knife attack in Wigan.
Reports online claim the incident last night (13 August) involved a large blade, like a machete.
The 17-year-old was rushed to hospital with a "potential life-changing injury" to his hand, after the incident in Atherton.
The force said an investigation is now underway and no arrests have been made yet.
Witnesses are being urged to come forward.
A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said: "At around 5.30pm yesterday (13 August) we were called to reports of an assault on Gloucester Street, in Atherton, Wigan.
"Emergency services attended and a 17-year-old male was taken to hospital with a potentially life-changing injury.
"Enquiries are ongoing.
"There are multiple road closures in place which will cause some disruption."
