Six men have been arrested over a brawl involving knives and hammers in Manchester - which has left several people with serious injuries.

Shortly before 1:45am this morning (Monday 17 March) police were called to Wilmslow Road, Manchester, to reports of a disturbance.

It’s believed that a group of men were fighting with weapons, believed to be knives and hammers, and several were injured.

Their injuries are serious, but they are thankfully not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.

Six men aged 18 to 24 have been arrested on suspicion of affray. They remain in police custody for questioning.

Detective Inspector Mark Astbury from our City of Manchester Criminal Investigation Department said: “Whilst we do believe this to be a targeted attack, we do not underestimate the impact this will have on the local community.

“This incident happened in a busy area, showing an unacceptable disregard for the safety of the community. Fortunately, no further injuries have been reported to us, and we were able to arrest those who we believe to be involved immediately.

“Additional officers remain in the area whilst we conduct further enquiries, and I ask that if anyone has any concerns or questions, please speak to them.”
