A man accused of the attempted murder of a nurse who was stabbed with scissors at Royal Oldham Hospital will go on trial in July.

Romon Haque, 37, spoke only to confirm his name when he appeared via video-link from HMP Manchester for a brief hearing at Minshull Street Crown Court in the city on Friday.

The defendant, of Yasmin Gardens, Royton, Oldham, is accused of the attempted murder of Achamma Cherian, a nurse in her 50s, who was seriously injured, and also the possession of a bladed article, a pair of scissors, in a public place, the hospital, on January 11.

No pleas were entered and a further pre-trial hearing was scheduled for April 10 and Judge Maurice Greene remanded Haque into custody until his trial, scheduled for July 14.
