Pensioner found dead after gas leak at house in Salford

A pensioner has been found dead at a home in Salford following a suspected gas leak.

Police and fire crews evacuated homes in Little Hulton at around 14:00GMT on Thursday (02 January).

Following searches of a property in Seddon Street, a man in his 70s was found dead.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "Shortly before 2pm yesterday (Thursday 2 January) we were called to reports of concern for welfare of a man on Seddon Street, Little Hulton.

"It’s believed that there was a gas leak at a property. A cordon was put in place and neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution whilst GMFRS carried out enquiries.

"Sadly, a man in his 70s was found deceased in the property.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
