Explosive disposal units assess two suspicious items found
Officers are investigating after two suspicious items were discovered in gardens in Fallowfield over the weekend.
The first item was found on Abram Close shortly after 6:05pm on Saturday 6th June 2026.
Following an assessment by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team, around 20 nearby homes were advised to evacuate as a precaution.
The investigation continued into Sunday 7th June when a second suspicious item was discovered outside a property on Rostherne Avenue at around 2:45pm.
Several houses in the vicinity have been asked to evacuate for precautionary reasons, while officials continue their examination.
No arrests have been made, but enquiries are ongoing.
Detective Chief Inspector Peter Morley of the City of Manchester Division said: “We thank everyone for their patience so far whilst we deal with this incident as our investigation into the full circumstances continues.
"Incidents such as these are likely to cause alarm in the local community, but please be reassured that there is no wider threat.
"A number of road closures are in place, please avoid the area and find alternative routes.
"Officers will be on hand to ensure the safety of people in the nearby area – please speak to them if you have any concerns.
"As our work continues, it is vital that anyone who has any information - no matter how small – should report it to us and allow us to investigate."
