Police investigate two shootings in Manchester
The incidents in Newton Heath are being treated as linked
Police are investigating after two suspected shootings were reported in Manchester last night.
At around 9.55pm on 16th September, officers were called to Ainthorpe Walk following reports of a gun being fired. A man was found with minor head injuries. Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said he is not believed to have been the intended target.
Shortly afterwards, a second suspected firearms discharge was reported at a property on Ballantine Street. It is believed to have happened at around the same time. Police have confirmed this as a firearms discharge, although no injuries were reported.
The two incidents are being treated as linked and, so far, no arrests have been made.
Detective Inspector Terina Arthern, from GMP’s Manchester district, said:
“Incidents of this nature are of course incredibly concerning, and we are working hard to establish the full circumstances and locate those responsible.
“We are supporting the injured man, who we do not believe to be the target of the attack. This dangerous and disgraceful act could have easily resulted in much more serious injury or worse to an innocent member of the public.
“While no arrests have yet been made, we are already undertaking multiple enquiries and additional patrols are in the area as part of this. If you have any queries, don't hesitate to speak to an officer.
“As we continue our work, we are asking for anyone with information to please come forward, as your assistance could greatly benefit our investigation.”
Police are urging anyone with dashcam, CCTV, or doorbell footage from the time of the incidents to get in touch. Information can be provided via 101 or the GMP Live Chat service at gmp.police.uk, quoting log 3500 of 16/09/25.
