Motorway shut following "substantial" spill

Drivers are being warned of delays

Part of a major motorway in Greater Manchester is shut this morning following a crash which led to a "substantial" spill.

Emergency services are working to clear hydraulic fluid from the southbound carriageway of the M61, between J4 for Westhoughton and J3 for Kearsley.

National Highways said: "2 lanes (of 3) are closed on the #M61 southbound between J4 #Westhoughton & J3 #Kearsley following a substantial hydraulic fluid spillage from a collision

"Emergency resurfacing of the carriageway is required and scheduled to take place later today".

Drivers are facing 30 minute delays, according to traffic monitoring site Inrix, which are expected build throughout the morning.
