Mancunian Way to close for annual safety inspection
Two-day road closure planned for essential maintenance
Motorists in Manchester should prepare for the upcoming closure of the Mancunian Way, as the major thoroughfare undergoes its annual safety inspection. The road will be closed on both carriageways and slip roads from 6am on Saturday, 26th June until 6am on Monday, 28th June.
The closure stretches from the Chester Road roundabout to Fairfield Street, facilitating essential safety and maintenance checks on one of Manchester's busiest roads.
Diversion routes
During the closure, fully signed diversions will guide vehicles travelling in both directions. Suggested alternative routes include:
Trinity Way, Great Ancoats Street
Bridgewater Viaduct, Whitworth Street West, Whitworth Street, and Fairfield Street
Councillor Mandie Shilton Godwin, Executive Member for Clean Air, Environment and Transport, emphasized the necessity of the closure for traffic safety and flow. She said, “Because of the tens of thousands of vehicles we see use the Mancunian Way every day, ensuring its proper maintenance and upkeep is essential. Not only to keep traffic flowing, but to keep drivers safe."

Motorists are advised to plan their journeys in advance and utilize alternative routes to avoid disruption during the closure. Councillor Shilton Godwin extended thanks to drivers for their patience as the essential works are carried out.
