Six men have been arrested in Manchester following a significant investigation into an aggravated burglary linked to the supply of class A drugs and firearms.

Officers initially responded to an incident at an address on Whalley Road, Whalley Range, on 18th May, where drugs valued at approximately £20,000 were recovered along with drug paraphernalia. Searches revealed a viable 9mm semi-automatic firearm and ammunition at the scene.

The operation was transferred to GMP's City of Manchester Central and South Challenger teams, who identified suspects related to a suspected organised crime group operating across Manchester.

On 8th June, Challenger officers executed a warrant at an address on Withy Grove in Manchester city centre, leading to the discovery of another viable firearm. Six men in their 20s and 30s were arrested on suspicion of various firearms offences, with three also linked to the earlier burglary.

Detective Paul Shacklady from GMP's City of Manchester South Challenger team commented on the arrests: "We have six men in custody, and we have recovered a significant amount of drugs, and prevented two dangerous weapons from reaching our streets."

Community safety

The success follows GMP's ongoing efforts to tackle serious and organised crime, emphasizing community safety across Greater Manchester. Detective Shacklady encouraged the public to report suspicious activity and reassured that all information received is taken seriously.

The efforts have contributed to a marked reduction in firearms discharges, with only 16 reported from April 2025 to April 2026.

Through continued vigilance and community collaboration, GMP aims to uphold safety and security throughout the region.
