A man has been sentenced to 22 years for crimes including rape and possession of an imitation firearm in Stockport.

Usama Al-Sari, 28, from Moorton Avenue in Manchester, appeared at Manchester Crown Court on 16th January 2026 after admitting to several charges, including rape, sexual assault, possession of a weapon with intent to cause fear, and making threats to kill. He was handed 14 years in prison and an additional eight years on licence.

Al-Sari was also issued with an indefinite restraining order and a Sexual Harm Prevention Order.

The crimes occurred in Heaton Mersey Park, Stockport, on 9th September 2025. Al-Sari approached a woman in the area, threatened her with what appeared to be a firearm, and forced her to accompany him to the park, where he raped her. The victim managed to escape and reach safety.

The weapon was later found to be a non-viable firearm.

Al-Sari was arrested within an hour of the report being made to police. Officers credited public involvement for their swift response.

Following the sentencing, the victim said: "I want to thank the police for their care, professionalism, and safeguarding-led approach. Being supported and treated with dignity made a huge difference, and I hope this case encourages all institutions to reflect on how they support victims of serious violence."

Detective Constable Heather Parke praised the victim’s courage for coming forward, saying, “Coming forward and reporting this incident enabled our officers to ensure the offender saw justice and the victim was able to receive the right support.”
