A 24-year-old man has been extradited to the UK from Portugal in connection with the killing of a teenager in Manchester almost six years ago, police said.

Nico de Carvalho Wilson, who was detained in Portugal in March and extradited back to the UK on Tuesday, has been charged with murder, manslaughter and violent disorder.

Greater Manchester Police said the charges relate to the death of 16-year-old John Soyoye, who was stabbed in Manchester in November 2020.

Wilson, who appeared at Manchester Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday, is due to appear next at Manchester Crown Court on Friday, the force added.

It comes after four members of an organised crime group were jailed in August, following their extradition to the UK for their involvement in Mr Soyoye’s murder.

In 2022, eight other men were handed prison sentences for their roles in the teenager’s death.

Mr Soyoye died at the scene of the stabbing in Birchenall Street, Moston, on November 5 2020.
