Man charged with murder after 82-year-old dies following assault in Oldham

A man has been charged with murder following the death of an 82-year-old man in Oldham.

Police were called to Stoneleigh Road at around 5:12pm on Sunday 1st March after reports of a serious assault.

Officers found a man with several injuries at the address.

He was taken to hospital but died the following day on Monday 2nd March.

The victim has been formally identified as Kenneth Turner, aged 82.

Dwaine Turner, whose date of birth is 20th March 1990, of Stoneleigh Road in Oldham, has been charged with murder.

He remains in police custody and is due to appear at Tameside Magistrates Court on Thursday 5th March 2026.

Investigation continues

Detective Chief Inspector Louise Edwards, of the Major Incident Team, said: “Our priority is understanding the full circumstances which led to this tragic incident and getting justice for the victim. Our thoughts are with Kenneth’s family, who are being supported by specialist officers.

"We recognise that this investigation may cause concern within the local community, but I want to assure the public that this is an isolated incident.

“You will notice an increased presence in the area whilst we conduct enquiries, but also across the coming days as the local neighbourhood team look to provide reassurance to those living close by.
