Man charged after assault on custody officers and staff on New Years Day

A man has been charged with several assaults - including attacking an emergency worker after an incident at a custody suite in Tameside on New Year's Day.

Muiz Olatunji, who's 25 and has no fixed address, is due in court today.

Three police officers are out of hospital after the incident, which happened whilst processing a man following a suspected breach of security at Manchester Airport.

In a statement, Greater Manchester Police said: "A man has been charged after three custody officers and staff were assaulted on New Years Day.

"Muiz Olatunji (06/11/2000), of no fixed abode, has been charged with:

"Two counts of section.47 assault, Section 39 assault, and assault by beating of an emergency worker.

"He has been remanded in custody to appear at Manchester and Salford Magistrates Court today (Saturday 3 January 2026)."
