Police begin investigation into man's death

A 49-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 48-year-old man was found dead at an address in Royton.

Police were alerted to concerns for the welfare of the deceased at Higginshaw Lane at 10.23am on 8th March 2026.

The 48-year-old man was declared dead at the scene by emergency services.

Detective Inspector Rachel Smith from the Major Incident Team said:

“Our thoughts remain with the victim’s loved ones. We understand the concern this incident may cause across the local community, but I would like to reassure you that we believe this to be an isolated incident that poses no wider threat to the public.

"We are open to all lines of enquiry at this early stage of the investigation, and we are conducting extensive enquiries to establish the full circumstances of this incident.

“You will notice an increased presence in the area whilst we conduct enquiries.
