Drivers on the M6 are facing significant delays this morning due to a lorry fire.

The motorway is shut northbound between J22 (Winwick) and J23 (Haydock).

Emergency services were called just before 03:00BST on Monday (14 April).

National Highways described it as a "substantial lorry fire" and said the closure was expected to last for "several hours".

It is highly likely the road will need emergency repairs once the fire is put out.

Police have confirmed there are no reports of any injuries.
