Pippa Wade from Manchester is preparing to run the London Marathon on 26th April to honour her father and support families affected by brain tumours.

As a scientist with experience in brain cancer research, Pippa's personal journey began with her father, Cameron, receiving a glioblastoma diagnosis in December 2024—one of the most aggressive brain tumours in adults.

“Our world changed overnight,” Pippa shared. Despite Cameron's prognosis, he remains determined to live life fully, driving Pippa's marathon effort to raise awareness and contribute to the cause.

Marathon preparation

Despite being active in hockey, Pippa had not considered herself a runner. Training for the marathon has been smooth overall, ensconced into her daily routine while balancing work. She will join approximately 56,000 participants to tackle the iconic 26.2-mile course.

Running for her dad, Pippa feels it provides a tangible way to show support amid the uncontrollable aspects of his diagnosis:

“Running the London Marathon for my dad means so much. You can’t change the diagnosis, but you can raise awareness, fund research, and show support. Cross that finish line signifies hope for better options and outcomes.”

Support and fundraising

Pippa's fundraising has surpassed £3,000, strengthening brain tumour research efforts led by The Brain Tumour Charity—the largest dedicated charity in the UK. Their initiatives focus on pioneering research, symptom awareness, early diagnosis, and support for affected individuals.

Rebecca Burrows from the Charity’s Events team recognises the impact of Pippa’s dedication:

“A huge thank you to Pippa for her incredible efforts. Every day in the UK, 35 people hear the words ‘you have a brain tumour,’... Efforts like Pippa's bring hope to thousands diagnosed each year."

Pippa's marathon participation highlights the critical need for increased research funding and the continual fight against brain tumours, inspiring collective action for change.
