Enhanced police presence to ensure safety during weekend festivities
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) is set to welcome thousands to the city centre for Manchester Pride 2026, a weekend celebrating the LGBTQ+ community with vibrant events and performances. From Friday 28th to Monday 31st August, the city will come alive with festivities, supported by police ensuring a safe and inclusive environment for all attendees.
Police engagement and safety measures
Chief Superintendent Dave Meeney, District Commander for GMP's City of Manchester Division, expressed enthusiasm for the event, stating: “We’re looking forward to supporting the annual Manchester Pride festival.”
GMP promises increased police presence throughout the city centre during the celebrations, both day and night. Officers will be on hand to engage with the public, offer reassurance, and respond swiftly to any incidents that might occur.
GMP's expertise in managing large-scale events will be crucial in maintaining community safety during one of the country's largest gatherings. Meeney advised attendees to have fun, stay alert, and report any concerns to officers or stewards.
