Four arrested after drivers targeted with crossbow in Wigan
A number of schools had to be put into lockdown
Four people have been arrested after reports that a group were threatening drivers with a crossbow in Wigan.
Police were called at 9:21am on 11th December to Norley Hall Avenue, where a group were reportedly handling a crossbow and shouting at vehicles.
Officers arrived within eight minutes and began searching for those involved.
By 10:08am, three men in their 20s and a 22-year-old woman had been arrested at a nearby address by the force’s Specialist Operations Unit. A crossbow was also recovered.
Greater Manchester Police said no injuries were reported and the weapon was not discharged.
Schools briefly locked down
As a precaution, several nearby schools went into temporary lockdown.
There was no direct threat to pupils or school staff, and all the schools have since re-opened.
School Engagement Officers will be visiting the schools involved to offer support and reassurance.
Investigation ongoing
The four suspects remain in custody while enquiries continue.
Neighbourhood Inspector Sam Davies said: “This was an isolated incident that poses no ongoing risk to the community.
“We understand this caused concern, officers will remain visible in the area and visit affected schools today to provide reassurance.
