Police officers recovered two self-loading pistols during a search in Moston, north Manchester early on Monday morning.

The operation involved a coordinated effort between the Serious Organised Crime Group and the Tactical Aid Unit, focusing on an area adjacent to St Joseph's Roman Catholic Cemetery.

As of now, no arrests have been made, and police inquiries are underway to uncover the origins and connections of the recovered weapons.

The discovery of the firearms aligns with ongoing efforts by Greater Manchester Police to disrupt criminal activities and remove dangerous weapons from streets.

Detective Inspector Rick Castley of the Serious Organised Crime Group said: “The recovery of these two firearms is a significant result and removes potentially lethal weapons from our communities.

"Serious organised crime groups often use violence, intimidation, and the threat of firearms to protect their criminal activities and interests."

Inspector Castley emphasised the commitment of officers to combat serious organised crime and urged the community to report any information related to illegal firearms via 101, 999 in emergencies, or the Live Chat function on the police website. Alternatively, people can contact Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.
