Update issued on firefighter seriously injured in Radcliffe mill blaze

The firefighter was rushed to hospital after they were seriously injured while responding to the blaze last Saturday (27 September)

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue have issued an update on a firefighter who was seriously hurt while responding to a blaze at a mill in Radcliffe.

Pioneer Mill was partially destroyed in the fire which broke out at around 19:50BST on on Saturday 27 September.

GMFRS have confirmed the firefighter who was injured is still in hospital as of Wednesday 01 October.

Unsafe parts of the mill are being demolished to allow fire inspectors to begin their investigations.

The update read: "Work at the Pioneer Mill site has continued steadily and safely, with teams from across the service and partner agencies working closely together.

"Controlled demolition has progressed with further safety checks planned to ensure the site is fully clear and stable.

"Fire investigations alongside partners are continuing as this work is done.

"Our thoughts remain with one of our firefighters and their family as he recovers in hospital."
