Huge fire breaks out near to Manchester's O2 Apollo

Drivers are being warned of major disruption on Hyde Road through Ardwick

Emergency services have spent the morning tackling a fire which has broken out close to the O2 Apollo in Manchester.

Eight fire engines were called to an industrial unit just off Hyde Road at around 05:00BST on Wednesday (24 September).

The road outside the historic music venue was closed, causing delays for motorists heading into the city centre during rush hour.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: “At around 5am on Wednesday 24 September, fire crews were called to reports of a fire at an industrial building on Hyde Road, Ardwick.

"Eight fire engines were quickly mobilised to the incident and firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels to extinguish the fire.

"Emergency services remain at the scene.”

Police have confirmed there were no reports of any injuries and the fire was brought under control by around 08:00BST.
