Driver arrested after fatal crash on Eccles Old Road
The 71-year-old pedestrian died at the scene
An appeal for information continues as investigators look into a fatal road traffic collision in Eccles.
Officers received reports of the incident at around 9:05pm on Saturday 3 May 2025, when they were called to a serious road traffic collision on Eccles Old Road.
They say that as the vehicle passed the junction with Manor Road, a pedestrian was struck by a car as he attempted to cross the second lane.
Sadly, the pedestrian, who was 71 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 68-year-old driver, was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving.
Greater Manchester Police say he remains in police custody.
In a statement, officers said: "Our Serious Collision Investigation Unit are now appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.
"They are also keen to speak to anyone who may have any footage from the area in the moments leading up to the collision.
