Man in critical condition following Manchester city centre stabbing
Emergency services were called to an incident early this morning
A man is critically ill in hospital following a stabbing in Manchester city centre.
Police officers discovered the 31-year-old while on patrol in Peter Street, Deangsate at around 3.40am today (Sunday 19th July 2026).
They administered first aid before the man was taken to hospital.
An investigation into the incident has been launched, although no arrests have been made yet.
Chief Inspector Mike Tachauer from Greater Manchester Police's City of Manchester Central team assured the community that the attack appears to have been targeted and that there is no wider threat to public safety.
"Our investigation is working at pace to establish those responsible for this," said Chief Inspector Tachauer. "There is currently a scene in place around Peter Street, and officers will continue to be in the area to provide reassurance."
