'Controlled explosion' for 'historic unexploded ordnance' in Bury
Police say the device was discovered on Saturday afternoon (22/08)
A controlled explosion took place last night in Bury after an item, believed to be a historic unexploded ordnance, was discovered in Whitefield.
At around 4.54pm, the device was found in the garden of a property on Lime Avenue.
Authorities swiftly put a cordon in place and closed surrounding roads, including Lime Avenue and Birch Avenue.
Residents were asked to remain indoors for safety while the device was assessed by officers.
Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) experts evaluated the ordnance and decided to transport it to Miss Walkers Field, off Chesham Road in Bury, for a safely controlled detonation.
