Two teenage boys have been charged in connection with a serious fire that broke out at a disused building on Barbauld Street in Warrington earlier this week.

The local boys, aged just 13 and 15, are facing charges of arson with intent to endanger life and arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered.

Both were remanded into custody and were due to appear before Warrington Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 17 April.

The charges follow a major fire that took hold of the empty property on Monday 14 April, prompting a significant emergency response.

Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but the scale and potential danger of the blaze have been treated with the utmost seriousness by investigators.

A third boy, aged 14, who was initially arrested and later released on bail, has now been ruled out of the investigation and will face no further action.

Police continue to work with fire investigators to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident.

Anyone with further information about the fire is urged to contact Cheshire Police or Crimestoppers anonymously.
