A dad from Bolton is worried his autistic son is being discriminated against - after applying for hundreds of jobs with no success.

Daniel Morris graduated University with a 2:1 degree in 2021 but since then he's only had two job interviews.

His Dad, Jim, said they have tried many programmes, both government funded and private: "Since then (University) he's applied for hundreds of jobs, and I mean hundreds, without any success.

"He's had two interviews and he didn't get those, and they were only temporary positions

"There should be some sort of pathway into employment for people who are in Daniels' position.

"The vast majority of disabled people want to be part of society.

"Listening to some of the politicians you get the impression that disabled people don't want to work, and all they're only in it for the benefits and that's so far form the truth!"

Jim believes employers don't want to hire someone with autism: "The vast majority of companies just don't reply, its like you're thrown into the ether.

"Some do, but it's usually thanks but no thanks.

"Daniel, he can misconstrue things, so what he really needs is any instructions to be precise and preferably in writing... If an employer was to employ him, that's what we'd say.

"He will do it and do things I would find completely boring and mind blowing, but Daniel can just do it."

Daniel said: "That was basically why I went into education in the first place, to get a job.

"It would mean a lot, actually it would allow me to basically use the skills I've acquired through education.

"Some companies are actually open to disability work, but with others they don't really see autism as a benefit, sometimes they see it more as like a hindrance.

"There are some companies that are terrified of having someone with autism."
