The roof of a bus has been ripped off as it tried to go under a low bridge in Bolton last night.

Pictures shared online appear to show the yellow roof of the bus lying in the road on Weston Street following the incident just before 8pm on Friday 7th November.

A spokesperson for Transport for Greater Manchester, said: “At around 7.45pm, an out of service bus collided with a low bridge on Weston Street in Bolton, causing extensive damage to the vehicle’s roof. The bus, operated by Go North West, was being driven back to the depot at the time of the incident, was not in service and had no passengers on board.

“Greater Manchester Police attended the scene and the road was closed for a short period while the bus was moved.

"Thankfully there were no passengers on board and we understand that the driver has not suffered serious injuries. We are supporting the police in their immediate response and will work closely with the operator to understand the exact circumstances that led to the collision.”
