The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) want to hear from anyone who saw what happened or was involved in the incident between junction 25 and 24 on Friday morning.

Officers were called to a concern for welfare at the bridge of Downall Green Road, Wigan, above the M6 Southbound at around 7.50am on Friday 16th January.

Sadly, a woman was pronounced dead at the scene and enquiries are on-going.

Formal identification is yet to take place, but there are not believed to be any suspicious circumstances.

To assist with enquiries, the SCIU are urging for anyone with information to please come forward.

This includes anyone who witnessed the incident itself, that may have collided with something in the carriageway at this location, or has dashcam / CCTV footage of the incident.
