Two brothers have been sentenced to a combined 18 years in prison for serious sexual assault after a Christmas event in 2023, following a detailed investigation by Met Police detectives.

Marius Todoran, 40, of Girton Avenue, Brent, received eight years' imprisonment for rape.

His brother, Vasile Todoran, 43, was sentenced to 10 years for rape, kidnap, and kidnap with intent to commit a sexual offence.

Both men have been added to the sex offenders’ register for life.

The case was initially dismissed, but after a successful appeal led by Met officers and prosecutors, the defendants were retried and found guilty at Kingston Crown Court.

The conviction was aided by the bravery and testimony of the victim-survivor, who thanked the police for their support throughout the investigation and trial.

Detective Sergeant Josh Dwyer praised the victim-survivor's courage and strength throughout the process.

Dwyer noted that although the sentencing cannot undo the case's impact, it may offer some closure.

The court decision to initially dismiss the case was challenged by the Met investigation team and prosecution, ensuring accountability for the Todoran brothers.

The assault occurred in December 2023 when the victim-survivor, in her 40s, encountered Vasile Todoran after leaving a Christmas event in Queensbury, North West London.

CCTV footage revealed her being forcibly taken to a location where both brothers were renting a room and subjected to a serious sexual assault.

A detailed investigation reviewed hours of CCTV footage and phone data, along with key witness interviews and forensic analysis, which led to charges against the brothers.

The Met say they're continuing prioritise women's safety and aims to ensure justice for victims of sexual violence.

As part of this effort, the Met has introduced new, bespoke training for 23,000 officers and staff to enhance investigations and support for victims, leading to stronger outcomes and increased reporting of offences.
