A man from London who threatened to rape a girl in Staffordshire and encouraged her to self-harm has been jailed.

24-year-old Shabaz Khokar has been sentenced to two-years-and-five-months in prison.

The court heard how Khokar threatened to rape a teenage girl from Staffordshire he'd been speaking to online.

He even sent her a screenshot of a train ticket he'd booked to travel to Staffordshire.

Police were waiting for him at the station, and he was arrested.

Officers later discovered he was sending messages encouraging the victim to self-harm and drop the case.

He was re-arrested and charged with more offences.

He pleaded guilty to:

  • encouraging or assisting serious self-harm by another
  • sending communication threatening serious harm

Khokar was also served with an indefinite restraining order against the victim.

This is the first sentencing in Staffordshire under the Online Safety Act 2023.
