A murder investigation has begun following the death of a man in East London.

Metropolitan Police officers were called at around 09:00hrs on Friday 5 June to reports a man had been stabbed in Pankhurst Avenue, Silverton.

Officers attended with the London Ambulance Service and found a 35-year-old man with stab wounds in the garden of a property on nearby Rayleigh Road.

Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was sadly pronounced dead on his arrival at hospital. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specialist officers.

Two men, aged 27 and 24, and a 25-year-old woman were arrested near the scene on suspicion of murder. They remain in police custody.

Another man, in his 20s, was taken to hospital with multiple stab wounds. He remains in hospital, where his condition is not believed to be life-threatening.

Homicide detectives from the Met’s Specialist Crime Command have launched a murder investigation.

Detective Chief Inspector Joanna Yorke, who is leading the investigation, said: “My thoughts remain with the family and loved ones of the man who has died.

“I know that the community will be understandably concerned by the incident. There remains a large police presence in the area, and I would urge anyone with concerns to speak with officers at the scene.

“Three people have been arrested in connection with the stabbing and our enquiries are continuing at pace. I would ask anyone with information or CCTV footage that could assist our investigation to get in touch with police.”
