Investigations underway after Mitcham fire involving workshops and grassland
Over 100 firefighters were needed to control the blaze

An investigation has begun to determine the cause of a significant fire that erupted in Mitcham last night near Carshalton Road.
The incident required a substantial response from the London Fire Brigade, with 125 firefighters and 20 fire engines dispatched to the scene.
The blaze impacted a workshop, a scaffolding yard, and approximately eight hectares of shrubland and grass, though fortunately, no injuries were reported.
Station Commander Jim Berry, who was present at the incident, reported that the firefighters succeeded in bringing the fire under control, though hotspots remained across parts of the affected area.
Firefighting operations are set to continue overnight to ensure full extinguishment of the fire and address residual hotspots.
Road closures are currently in effect on London Road and Carshalton Road at the junctions of Willow Lane, Goat Road, and Hackbridge Road, with residents advised to steer clear of the area.
The Brigade employed one of its Terrain Support Vehicles to navigate off-road and transport equipment for tackling grass fires more efficiently.
Additionally, a 32-metre turntable ladder was used to combat the blaze from above, and the Brigade's Drone Team provided aerial visuals of the fire's progression.
Control Officers received over 100 calls related to the fire, beginning at 4:27pm, with firefighting efforts ultimately concluding by 8:28pm.
The cause of this extensive fire remains under investigation.
