Man from London charged with attempted murder in Bury St Edmunds
A man from London has appeared in court, charged with attempted murder, following an attack in the Moreton Hall area of Bury St Edmunds last month.
Police were called at around 10pm on Sunday 22 March to reports of a serious incident in Mortimer Road.
A man aged in his 40s was found to have sustained stab wounds and was taken to hospital with life-threatening injuries. He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.
On Thursday 2 April, a 47-year-old man, Sebestian Smith, of Radford Road in Lewisham, was arrested in southeast London in connection with the incident and transported to Suffolk for questioning, he has subsequently been charged with attempted murder.
He appeared at Ipswich Magistrates’ Court today, Saturday 4 April, and has been remanded in custody pending his next hearing at Ipswich Crown Court on Tuesday 5 May.
Police believe this was a targeted incident, with no wider threat to the local community.
