London Fire Brigade has confirmed a man has died in a flat fire in Oval.

Around 30 firefighters and five fire engines were called to a fire on Dorset Road just after midnight on Sunday morning.

They arrived to find a first floor maisonette, in an 11-storey residential block, alight.

Part of the maisonette was damaged by fire and sadly a man was found dead at the scene.

Crews from Lambeth, Clapham, Peckham and Battersea were among those at the scene - they got the fire under control by 1.30am.

An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway by the fire service and Met Police.
