Met trying to track down 'heroic witness'
Police are searching for a man who stepped in to help three women
Police in London are calling for a man who stepped in to protect three women from harm to come forward and assist with an investigation.
The incident occurred on Camden High Street at around 08:00 on 14th January when an intoxicated man reportedly tried to rob and sexually assault a group of three women walking along the street.
Officers arrived at the scene and spoke with the women involved. However, it was only during a review of CCTV footage that the actions of the unknown man who came to their aid were revealed.
Details of the man
According to police, the man confronted the intoxicated man multiple times and stayed with the women until they were safe.
Described as white of average build with a short brown beard, he was wearing a distinctive red beanie hat with a yellow logo, a light cream jacket, a green rucksack, dark trousers, and brown shoes. He was seen helping the women near Miniso, a shop at the junction of Camden High Street and Inverness Street.
Sergeant Max Pennington, who is leading the investigation, praised the man’s actions, saying:
“He could have kept on walking, but instead he repeatedly placed himself between the women and the man, putting his safety on the line to do so.”
He added, “We want to thank him for his heroic actions but also believe he is a key witness who has important information which could assist with our investigation.”
Appealing for information
Police are urging the man, or anyone who may know him, to contact authorities. They also ask anyone who witnessed suspicious activity in the area at that time to come forward.
Anyone with information is encouraged to call 101 and use the reference 01/7057429/26.
