Experts warn of more heatwaves in August
London is set to experience a scorching heatwave this week, with temperatures expected to peak at 33C on Wednesday, according to the Met Office.
Commencing from Tuesday 28th July, the heatwave will elevate temperatures from 29C to a high of 33C before slightly dropping to 28C on Thursday.
Originally forecast to reach 32C, updated predictions now identify Wednesday as the hottest day with the peak occurring between 4pm and 6pm.
Potential further heatwaves are anticipated from 10th August to 24th August, as per long-term forecasts, likely impacting southern regions.
A yellow heat alert has been issued from 9am on Tuesday to 9am on Friday for several regions including East and West Midlands, south-east, south-west, east of England, Yorkshire, and Humber.
The UK Health Security Agency warns of significant health impacts, noting increased risks for vulnerable groups.
Heatwave qualification in London requires three consecutive days of 28C or higher temperatures.
Met Office meteorologist Marco Petagna underlines the necessity for adjusted heatwave thresholds due to the consistent warming climate.
July’s data indicates the month is among the hottest on record, with southern England receiving minimal rainfall.
