A Londoner with a severe nut allergy is urging people to be mindful of allergies in their festive feasts.

Julianne Ponan has suffered with a severe nut allergy has been telling us how hard it is for her to navigate food throughout the festive period.

"I was on first name basis on A and E. There were multiple times I was given something like Marzipan and my whole face swelled up, I stopped breathing and collapsed.

"This is what I have to go through every Christmas, every time I go to someone's house".

According to the Food Standards Agency, 2.4 million brits have a diagnosed food allergy, and 600,000 live with Coeliac Disease which effects people's tolerance of gluten.

Julianne says the festive period is particularly stressful for those with allergies.

"Every time you eat something, you shouldn't have to be scared whether you're going to survive or not".

"When you are thinking about serving dinner or inviting guest round, just be a little more kind and inclusive".

She also told us she wants people to understand just how dangerous allergies can be.

"People aren't just fussy, allergies are real. When someone says they have a nut allergy, they're not being fussy, it's life or death for them".

Julianne now runs a food business making food specifically for those with allergies.

"It's why we do what we do. We make cakes everyone can eat. We make it so everyone can enjoy eating around the table.
