Man charged with murder of pensioner in Lewisham

A murder investigation is underway after a pensioner was found dead

Met detectives have launched a murder investigation following the death of an 87-year-old man in Lewisham.

Police were called at about 01:00hrs on Sunday, 24th August, to an address in Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, alongside the London Ambulance Service, following reports of a death at the property.

An 87-year-old man was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. His next-of-kin have been informed and are being supported by specially-trained officers.

A post-mortem examination held on Monday, 25th August gave the cause of death as compression of the neck.

Vasile Iosebica, 47, of Wellmeadow Road, Lewisham, was arrested on suspicion of murder and was subsequently charged on Tuesday, 26 August.

He will appear at Bromley Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, 26 August.

The victim and Iosebica were known to each other.
