E-bike warning from London Fire Service

The fire service are offering advice following a record breaking year for e-bike fires in the capital.

The London Fire Brigade is offering safety warnings for anyone who may have been given an e-bike or e-scooter for Christmas.

It's after 2025 was a record breaking year for the numbers of fire's caused by e-bikes and e-scooters in the capital. On average, the fire services responded to a fire caused by these vehicles at least once every 2 days.

These fires damaged countless properties, and lead to the death of a woman in Wood Green on the 21st of June.

Since 2023, the fire service have run their #ChargeSafe campaign, reminding people how to properly store and charge their vehicles.

This is how the London Fire Brigade says you can use your vehicles safely.

  • Always follow manufacturers’ instructions when charging.
  • You should always make sure you unplug your charger once it’s finished charging.
  • Always use the correct charger for your batteries and buy any replacements from a reputable seller.
  • Make sure your battery and charger meet UK safety standards
  • Never block your escape route with e-bikes or e-scooters.
  • Store and charge them somewhere away from a main through route or exit.
  • Never leave it charging unattended or charge it while you are asleep.
  • Make sure you and your family have an escape plan in place in the event of a fire.
  • Fit smoke alarms in the area where you charge your batteries.
