A van driver who deliberately served his vehicle to run over a cyclist has been jailed for three and a half years.

Mark Okotie was transferring blood deliveries through Lewisham in March 2024 when he was involved in an altercation with a cyclist.

Police were flagged down by members of the public around 5:40pm on the 20th of March 2024 by members of the public who reported the collision on New Cross Road in Lewisham.

The cyclist, a man in his 20's, was taken to hospital with multiple fractures and later required surgery.

Woolwich Crown Court heard how, instead of carrying on with his journey, Okotie deliberately stuck the cyclist and ran them over, causing serious injuries.

He was found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent.

Metropolitan Police Detective Inspector Steven Andrews, who led the investigation, said in a statement "Okotie was driving a vehicle carrying blood destined for hospital patients in need. Instead of continuing a journey intended to support potentially lifesaving treatment, he chose to place someone else's life at risk.

"We acted quickly to secure and review extensive dashcam and CCTV footage, while obtaining crucial witness evidence from those who saw the incident unfold. That meticulous investigative work allowed us to build a clear picture of events, leaving no doubt about Okotie's culpability.

"I hope this sentence provides a measure of justice for the victim and demonstrates that deliberate acts of violence on London roads will be robustly investigated and prosecuted."
