100 firefighters tackle fire at Deptford waste facility
Crews battle blaze involving 50 tonnes of waste
There's been a severe fire at a waste facility on Landman Way in Deptford.
Around 100 firefighters and 15 fire engines were needed to control the blaze.
The fire started last night and involved around 50 tonnes of household waste.
Station Commander Duncan Rees said:
"Crews worked hard in difficult conditions to bring the fire under control. One of the Brigade’s 32m ladders and a 64m ladder were both used as water towers to tackle the flames from above.
"Whilst the fire is under control, crews will remain on scene into the morning and afternoon as they work to extinguish the remaining pockets of fire."
Emergency Response
The Brigade had over 160 calls about the fire, which has severely damaged the facility's structure.
Teams from East Greenwich, Old Kent Road, Deptford, and neighbouring fire stations were dispatched.
While the fire was brought under control just after 2am in the morning, crews remain on site to fully put out isolated pockets and conduct dampening operations to secure the area from further incidents.
As a safety precaution, nearby rail lines were closed during the operation.

The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined, and investigations are ongoing.
