Decision expected over controversial Chinese mega embassy in the capital
Many have raised concerns over China's human rights record and issues over national security.
A decision over China's proposed mega embassy in central London is due to be announced today after years of waiting.
Many expect the embassy, which will be situated right next to the Tower of London, will get the go ahead, despite many raising concerns over threats to national security and China's human rights record.
In plans for the embassy released last week, underground rooms in the complex raised concerns due to the close proximity to cables carrying information from the City of London.
At the weekend, hundreds protested the proposal, highlighting the countries history with human rights abuses.
At the protest, we spoke to Monica from the Free Tibet movement. She told us she is worried the approval of this embassy would look like a reward for the Chinese government for their actions around Tibet and Hong Kong.
''Knowing how they have increased national repression towards communities, obviously that's going to make it much easier if they get away with having the mega embassy, to get away with this repression.
She told us she feels the public should raise more questions about the embassy.
"It wouldn't be the first time China interfered with politics so I do think its not just about the Tibet and Hong Kong communities, its also about the British public".
The deadline for the government's decision over the embassy is the end of the day today.
The Government has been contacted for a response to the allegations of human rights abuses made by China.
