Multiple attendees needed medical care after crowd surge
An unexpected crowd surge led to the early closure of the Ghana Party in the Park event at Copthall Playing Fields in Barnet.
The incident occurred shortly after 6pm yesterday (Saturday).
The Metropolitan Police responded to reports of crushing at the event entrance.
According to the police, a temporary closure of the gates due to a small fire near the entrance caused a crowd build-up.
When the gates reopened, the crowd surged forward.
Officers quickly intervened, creating a protective barrier between the surging crowds and individuals who had fallen.
Initial medical care was provided by the police, including CPR for those injured.
Paramedics and firefighters later joined in a coordinated response.
A total of 23 people received assistance, with nine assessed by the London Ambulance Service.
Three were admitted to hospital, though their conditions were non-life threatening.
The event was subsequently ended early, and the crowd dispersed without further trouble.
