A man from Kelvedon Hatch has been jailed for 12 years after being caught carrying more than £160,000 in cash used in organised drugs crime.

Samuel De Vere-Hunt, 30, of School Road, was found to have laundered more than £6million and supplied hundreds of kilos of MDMA, ketamine and cannabis.

He pleaded guilty at Kingston Crown Court last March to the following charges:

  • two counts of conspiracy to conceal criminal property
  • two counts of being concerned in the supply of Class B drugs
  • three counts of possession with intent to supply Class A drugs
  • four counts of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs
  • possession of criminal property

He was sentenced on Friday 30 January at Kingston Crown Court.

His girlfriend and accomplice Rosie Wise, 25 and also of School Road, received a sentence of one year and nine months, suspended for two years.

She initially pleaded not guilty to being concerned in the supply of Class A drugs and possessing criminal property, but changed her plea to guilty last June.

PC Bob Rosie from the Specialist Crime Developing Threats Team , who led the investigation for the Metropolitan Police, said:

“Investigating De Vere-Hunt was like finding a needle in a haystack.

"He has been brought to justice thanks to thorough detective work which was able to identify him as the owner of two encrypted communications platform Encrochat handles, ultimately leading us to his house in Essex where he had over 33kg of Class A and B drugs.
